Plus, it is interesting to know one was previously there which I never saw. I gave it to the Burke Museum but have not heard back from them re: cause of death. Glad to see one has returned. I was still a bit surprised that it stayed on the exact same perch the next 6 or 7 hours.

I am glad to hear about your sapsuckers! I have been watching a couple of trees for wintering sapsuckers over here but I have not seen a single one so far. I am really curious how far (and when) they migrate. I've had this experiene several times, finding an owl when I did not have my camera, and then having to walk (if not run) all the way home, get my camera and walk back, almost always finding the owl still right where it was supposed to be. On a different subject, here it is Oct. 7, and the wind is blowing and our Red-breasted Sapsucker still remains "chained" to my sapsucker tree -- a weeping birch -- where it has been night and day for months. I keep expecting it to leave, but so far it hasn't. Makes for easy photography. I can almost guarantee that bird.Dan Pedersenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12394699068556538583noreply@blogger.com
